Thank you! I had no idea. Ive always worked out, little lifting but mostly cardio. Starting today I am going to change my routine, goals and mindset completely. Sharing this!!
Fantastic. So grateful.
Chiropractors that use the Dr in front of their name and then spout systemic information like they were trained as an MD are the biggest scammers. And the biggest I know of on here is Eric Berg. He spouts fad diets as blanket terms, talks about how ADHD can be cured, and other non medical opinions as facts. They are scum and it’s all based off pseudoscience made up by a dude who has a schooling level of 5th grade. Their X-rays that they take show no improvement. Studies show you can’t move the spine. They are popping air bubbles also known as cavitation which producers a temporary analgesic response. People feel better because of that and their nervous system was regulated during the visit but it fixes nothing and that’s why it’s a scam. Their education is all bullcrap and not based in science. And over 50% of people who go get injured in some way from minor injuries to stroke and some death. It’s not a safe practice and normal people without trauma or without connective tissue disorders don’t subluxate nor dislocate joints. It is very painful to adjust a joint back in place and those who have connective tissue disorders should stay far away as it’s contraindicated. Some people like it as an adjunct but that’s all it is. Same with massage therapy. It helps release muscles and tension but doesn’t address the cause of the tension in the first place. Physical therapy does both if you attend a place that believes in manual therapy. And I’ve been shocked at the lack of anatomical knowledge of massage therapists as some I’ve spoken with recently don’t know the proper bony landmarks or the muscle insertion and origin. Crazy to me when they work on muscles but whatever. Maybe our local school is crap. Anyway. Sorry for getting on my soapbox but chiros that think they are just as good as an MD and try to trick people into thinking they are are literally my biggest pet peeve. They are dangerous and don’t back anything with scientific evidence.
You're the best health channel on this darned app Sharelle!!
what's wrong with my matcha 😅😂
This is the first in my life I've heard a woman just flat out say, "Just get really strong." I keep my strength goals quiet as everyone in my life has told me, "don't get too strong.' or "women should be soft." Umm..I have a 4yo. When the zombies come, I need to put him on my back and climb the side of this building to safety. I might even be strong enough to pull you up with me 😉💪🏾💪🏾.
Thank you for consistently speaking on how important strength training is ❤
When you reacted to the video about sleeping (I actually liked that video when I saw it a while ago, because it gave me permission to sleep for 9 hours :D), I thought you probably felt the way I feel when I see bad advice videos on singing, singing exercises and how the voice works. But for someone who doesn't know that field in depth, it might sound legit.
Why is it always some unqualified man telling a woman what to do with her body? Aren’t they bored with this by now? I know I am.
Also, squat, deadlift and bench is NOT necessary to build strength and muscle. There are tons of other workouts that do it just well
14:52 i don't think i was able to understand what that man said at all lmao
Its also very important for your vascular and heart health!
What can people with chronic pain do? I use to strength train but my chronic pain got much worse after I got Covid even resistance bands cause my pain to flare up so much. I am in PT and seeing a pain specialist but nothing helps. This makes me so anxious about aging when I can’t maintain the strength I build up before.
Your physic already heals me, I eat healthy (enough and all nutrients) and workout everyday and my body looks like yours, I was expecting I would look like a Victoria Secret model, of course not, because I eat and exercise 😂😂😂
Can you please make some videos on home body weight and free weight exercise plans?
The best Grant since Amy❤
The "men have X and women have Y" bit about reproductive organs comes across a little trans-exclusionary to me.
Exercise for slight back pain
20:43 strengh workout all the way ladies 🎀💪
lol I’m soooooo tired of people acting like women are these fragile creatures that can’t cope with a 9-5 workday, need to sleep way more, need to rest way more, can’t train on their period or need to cycle sync their workouts, shouldn’t lift heavy, the list goes on. It’s misogyny repackaged as wellness and so many women are falling for it. You’re stronger than you think and stop letting people on the internet tell you you’re not!!
You are a very good teacher, please make a video of how to do all the fundamental exercises.
If women should get uninterrupted sleep. This means dad is always the one going to the crying baby, right? No….
My mum died at 78 due to meningitis. Before she got sick she was very healthy due to regular resistance training and aerobics. She was strong and the way she walked and moved around it was like she was 30. My mum will always be a role model to me.
I have multiple sclerosis and a family predisposition towards osteoporosis. I'm pretty religious about strength training at least twice a week.
Can I still see these benefits if im doing 30 mins kettlebell workshops on YouTube like 2 or 3 times a week? Giving im increasing the kettlebell weight for progressive overload as I get stronger?
Our mailbox is at the bottom of the small hill we live on. I can definitely run to the mailbox, just not sure I can stop. 😊
Great video! I wish I could sleep 10 hours 😂 can't do anymore than 5-6 on a good night.
One thing about the women in C-suites identifying as athletes, that study has been shown to have a hidden bias in its dataset: the majority of those women went to private schools and were born into upper-middle to upper class (so basically they got easier access to sport opportunities most people from lower and middle classes can't as well as a whole better access to learning in general). It doesn't take away that sport can be great for confidence, but it hasn't been definitely proven as an independent variable yet.
I usually really enjoy your videos and agree with a lot of your takes, but I will push back on one thing- there is not enough physiological research on all types of women. I'm assuming most of the studies that include men and women, today, include men and women of the same race, same socioeconomic background, same or similar lifestyles, etc. If most studies include results from mainly white, upper middle class, fairly active participants, I do take their results with a grain of salt. As a Black woman from a low socioeconomic background who is fairly fit (walk everywhere, go to the gym 5 days a week, strength train 4 days a week, for a little over 10 years), certain things about body composition, muscle mass, and general recommendations on lifestyle changes don't easily apply to me. I can apply certain aspects, sure, but not most things.
Also, stating women are focused on thinness is not true for all of us. As a Black woman, being as thin as possible was never and will never be my goal. I naturally have a large chest and large hips. At my smallest (weight and size wise) I'm still over a D cup and have noticeable muscle mass. I was never going to be stick thin nor would it fit my goals and overall features. I think there are plenty of cultural influences that affect how we view our bodies and our ideal body types.
I think some people voicing that the research isn't very inclusive have valid points and when I look at studies and see that the particpants are mainly from one group or a smaller sample size, I do take that with a grain of salt because I know my specific background is most likely not being accounted for.
Would you mind doing a video on the cycle syncing? Myth and truths.
Could you please add an spanish voice track even if its AI? 🙏🏻 My mom has perimenopause, ive been trying to get her to strength train and this information is so valuable, unfortunately there aren't many good videos like this in Spanish and she doesn't speak or understand any English
I need help with building my bone density. I just did my test and compared to 5 years ago I lost 3% and I haven’t turned 40. I’m trying to prevent that as much as possible since I have rheumatoid arthritis. Would love to learn more about this
What about those who cannot afford or have no access to "a gym"? I agree that I need to try to build muscle. Can I do that with bands, light dumbbells (because that's all I have), and bodyweight exercises?
It pains me to admit but I was a Pilates princess for over 2 years because I was scared to “train like a man” and didn’t want to get “bulky.” The last few months I’ve been doing strength training 3x a week alongside my Pilates and when I tell you my body recomp and physical strength has dramatically improved. I could barely do one push up before and now I can do 10. I can’t wait to see how much stronger I can get 💪🏼 thank you for this video! 🫶🏼
Goid but why did you say we need carbs? Energy can cone from fat and at least fat is an essemsial nutrient.
"It's not ageing that makes us fragile" .. right.
Show me these older adults who have followed the gym bunny promises and demonstrate their longevity outcomes. If you decouple resistance training from the massive moneymaking gym and supplement machine watch the advice dry up.
Sharelle is gorgeous!
As a 45 year old woman with arthritis for decades no I can't and won't run anywhere or jump on boxes and your concern isn't warranted. I strength train, do pilates, walk and sauna. That's life.
I go to the gym 5 days a week, 2 decades in the Army took a pretty good toll on my body now that I'm in my late 40s, I do it to stay in decent shape. Pretty much I wanna run from one end of my block to the other while I don't have a heart attack and lift my own body weight at the very least. If I end up looking good then that's a plus.
Eating healthy though is pretty expensive so I try to but the economy is getting pretty bad
Two problems we aren't talking about when it comes to health and strength and fat loss: 1- There are people who have lost muscles as a result to undereating, or not being able to afford protein. Because meat is expensive. (Fish, legumes, etc, price is rising everywhere. There are alternative, it's just a lot of work/time/cooking on top of everything. People are getting more and more burned out.) Yes it's a move towards your health, but not everyone makes enough money nowadays and that trend is going up. 2- Moving more: I would LOVE to move more, but that would require me to have much more time, or have a job that allows me to be more active. Between obligations, responsibilities, and work, it can be difficult to be as active as one should be. And yeah there are ways, get up every hour, take a walk in the morning or at night, but that still doesn't create the benefits of a full active life. One has to wonder if everyone should start aiming at jobs that allow more movement, but also not too repetitive movements that one gets injuries that will never fully heal. It's a hard thing to balance.
At the end of the day, I always end up at the same conclusion: While we have the ability to make some change, a big part of what's wrong with our bodies is reflected in what's wrong with our society.
Can you do a video where you explain why is it false to think that pilates gives snatche toning fine kinda muscle and the gym gives some bulking big muscles ? And how do muscles and muscle growth really work ?
I am menopausal, as this week would be bleed week, I have no energy, but just told myself to get the f%$k on with it, 2 work outs down this week, 2 more to go. Still get it done even if you don't want too. 🙂
I'm 27 and I have tumours in my thigh that make impact activities painful and very difficult, but I still train my other leg for impacts (jumping, …) and the rest of my body with strength training because I am worried about my future. My tumours are always going to be here, so I know my leg is going to be weaker and more prone to issues because of the periods where I cannot train (can vary from 3 months to 5 years at a time). Therefore, I want the rest of my body to be healthy so that when I get to menopause age, I won't have to worry as much about the rest of my body and falls will be less dangerous. Will I have right leg issues/breaks/poor mass muscle? Likely, but it's a bit less difficult to have to think carefully about 1 part of your body than ls to do so about your entire body.
I started going to gym 10 years ago because I saw how my grandma died from osteoporosis and dementia. I also have family history of diabetes, so I’m do my best to control diet. But now I’m annoyed with amount of “woman should lift 1.5 their weight and look like muscle square”. If you training consistently after your 30th does your bones still destroy themselves that fast? Logically it should not be like this. It seems like overachieving to protect “greater” future, but this is only one factor over 30 and you just can’t prevent some issues before they happened.
Really waiting when trend changes to “you should train hard enough for bones but wisely to prevent prolapse and prioritise recovery”
Why do I feel so demotivated to strength train around my period? Minus the period pain on the first day ofc XD Is that a normal phenomenon or just me?
