I'm an RD teaching at a university. At the end of the semester a few years back in my Intro to Nutrition class, I had a student leave the comment, "I thought we were going to talk more about food." I always chuckle when I think back on this. There seems to be a big disconnect between what nutritional science/nutrition studies is and what people believe it to be. I also had a highly educated man say to me, "but is nutrition even a real science." Sir, you better hope I am not the RD if you ever need a tube feed or TPN because I will have some real smart words to say to you.
