In this video, Dr. Berg talks about keto (ketogenic diet) for kids. The ketogenic diet is not unhealthy if done with lots of vegetables. Keto is really about getting the refined sugars out of the diet – it’s very healthy.

  1. Tbh, teens should have carbs.

If they are moving around a lot Ofcourse. But if they don’t move around a ton, they don’t need a ton of carbs.

Though, higher carbs are definitely fine for active teens, aslong as they don’t get fat.

  2. I am so HAPPY Dr. Berg is here! I’ve learned so much when I started out and then stopped due to person reasons! I am back & don’t ever plan on stopping this time! I just needed to see about my babies! 😍

  3. Would love more videos like this with practical advice for parents. My girls are 12 and 8. My oldest is thin but has always had stomach problems. We see both a urologist and gastroenterologist at a Children’s Hospital, but haven’t really gotten any clear answers. I would love to completely cut out processed food, carbs and sugars, but I need to know how to replace those. Their school lunches are terrible and always give them tummy issues. The school requires that you bring a snack that they have mid morning. I never know what to pack for the snack because I need something easy that doesn’t need to be refrigerated so it’s usually pretzels, crackers, or popcorn. I just started keto three days ago and absolutely love it, but I have mostly adhered to a Mediterranean and more whole foods heavy diet. I would love to transition the whole family over. Thank you so much for your informative videos!

  4. I am highly concerned. I started my 22 month old daughter on what is essentially a keto type diet a few days ago because she developed an infection on a stye in her eye that led to cellulitis. I knew i needed to cut out grains, all sugar, and dairy to bring her immune system back up. For the past couple of days she has had keto breath. Is it safe for her to be in ketosis? From what I understand she is burning fat instead of glucose. She is not over weight or under weight. But I don't think toddlers should be burning fat. She is basically eating egg omelets with onions, peppers, bacon for breakfast. Some sort of protein/vegetable for lunch and dinner. She is eating until she is full, what am I doing wrong? Am i worrying for nothing? She is almost healed naturally without antibiotics.. what should I feed her to remedy this??

  5. hello dr berg, i was a little bit overweight child and I have put myself in the keto diet the last few months and lost a lot of weight but my parents are concerned i’m underweight. they now insist on force feeding me pasta and high carb cereal and bread because they think i am too skinny, but i know how much better it would be for me to continue doing keto and just up my calories by upping healthy fats and protein. what should i do to convince my parents i don’t need to constantly be eating whole grains to gain a little weight?

  6. I love what this says about it being hard to switch a child from eating sugary, carby crap to eating healthy foods unless you start them out that way (though I started my son out this way and he still gets sucked into the sugar-carb trap by peers). I work for my local school district cafeteria. I have worked in all school levels from elementary to high school. They don't start offering much in the way of healthy food (like big salads) until at least middle and high school (and even then the salad dressings are not good and neither are some of the breaded processed meats that go in some of them). If we offer our kids garbage in school every day HOW do we expect them to EVER learn to eat healthy?!

  7. We started a keto diet in my house last yr. In just a few months my eye sight worsened tremendously and my teen lost her sight completely for a few minutes twice. So we stopped the diet and for my daughter she stopped losing her eye sight. Mine has continued to decline as I still try to eat pretty healthy. Id love for someone to explain to me why this is having such an effect on eye sight

  8. I'm 11 and prepubecent. My mother believes that if I do it there will be severe side effects. She is concerned it will worsen my astma. I need to know if it will, because I am around 10kg overweight.
