The ketogenic diet – also known as a keto diet is a low-carb, high-fat, and moderate protein diet. Also known as an LCHF (low carb high fat), it is a modified version of the Atkins diet.
Essentially you will switch from using glucose as the primary source of fuel to running on ketones and burn fat. This is a good thing, especially you have some unwanted fat you are trying to get rid of.
But what can you EAT specifically when on a ketogenic diet? What kinds of foods will fill or MUST be in your shopping cart when buying foods so prepare meals and snacks that will hit your nutritional targets for a ketogenic way of eating? Well, obviously you will be needing plenty of high fat foods, but don’t go running for the ice cream isle just yet . . . lol!
When it comes to the fats you want to be shopping for keep in mind the “value” of what you are selecting. Go for whole, HIGH VOLUME foods that carry a serious amount of nutritional value. Select things like nuts, seeds, avocados, eggs, Greek yogurt and hard cheeses to get the highest quality fats.
With respect to proteins it’s relatively simple . . . choose lean cuts of meats such as beef, pork, chicken, turkey and fish. The biggest challenge for most people when starting a keto diet is the tendency to consume too much protein but as you adjust to the higher fat content in your diet you will feel more satiated and be less tempted to FILL UP on your proteins.
As for carbs, again, it’s all about making the BEST and most HEALTHFUL choices! My recommendation is to go for the LEAFY GREEN veggies to give you all the vitamins and minerals you need as well as FIBER. Choose bright and vibrant as well as more of the ABOVE GROUND veggies.

Do not get me started on the keto diet.. that shit almost killed me. If you want to lose fat, get the Agoge diet in my honest opinion, it worked great for me

Basically stay away from carbs. Carbs would be anything with consistency of rice, potatoes, grains, etc. Healthy carbs are found in vegetables, nuts and beans. So consume these. When eating meats, do not cut away all the fat. Yes, meat fat is actually great for your dieting as your body is engineered to process it versus complex carbs that are found in chips for example.
Is there any cap on carbs outside of 5%. I thought you had to be under 50 grams of carbs, would be excited if this were not so.
My concern is can I afford this for me and my family on a restricted budget AND will I have time to do all this cooking working full time and taking online classes. I feel so overwhelmed thinking about it 😖
