Excellent video you laid out the information well and understandable.
Mediterranean is not vegan
If you agree omitting those med foods…is it really med?
Good video that's exactly what I'm doing except also cutting down a lot of dairy products 😌👍
Dr. Gillaspy, is there a better keto diet that doesn't raise your LDL cholesterol? I've lost weight ( 25 lbs.) but Im still having high blood pressure and elevated LDL.
I've been doing keto for a year but after some research I think avoiding red meats a bit more and basically moving more towards mostly seafood and some chicken might be healthier in the long run. Saturated fats is what I want to lessen in my diet so I will be trying to move a bit more towards the mediterranean version of keto. I eat lots of avo's and nuts anyway, some cheese and lots of low carb veg. I hardly ever touch fruits but when I do it might be a few berries. I think mostly I have to lower my consumption of butter and ghee and red meat and I think there aren't any specific rules to have to follow.. I'm trying to maintain this as my weekly diet as a lifestyle.
I just also believe that you have to somehow refill your glycogen stores every now and then. I realized after the first 3 months of strict keto that your body starts to really need that as it feels famished and you get this sort of slump. So I do sometimes on the odd occasion have some carbs and then jump straight back in and feel great again.
I have lower back pain, stenosis, scoliosis and arthritis. I'm overweight by about 80 lbs, and the neurologist recommended that I lose weight on the keto- Mediterranean diet. ❤
Beef is the most nutrient dense of all meats and does not cause heart disease, same with animal fat. I will continue focusing on eating mostly beef and incorporate the other parts of Mediterranean.
Thank you for this!!!! I, was doing Keto however I love the Mediterranean too.
Question? How can one stay in ketosis with the carb content from these vegetables and the dairy?
So what can u eat
I’m looking for a diet/lifestyle to help me lose weight. I’m newly menopausal and need to lose 50lbs. This looks like a healthy approach to keto – I’m going to give it a shot. Thank you!
This diet kicks you out of ketosis and you won’t be fat burning state
This again takes you to diabetics and obesity 😂
How is the Med diet limiting meat. The Med diet in those countries have Lamb, Chicken, and pork.
I live in cyprus and alot of the foods excluded are actually a big part of the diet here 2 big examples dairy and red meat . Main difference from other regions is these come mostly from sheep and goats . Please before giving advice like this on the internet make sure you know your stuff eg what the locals actually eat in their homes not a media version of it . Barbecues are a weekly affair and there no barbecue without lamb . Yoghurt is basically a side dish to almost everything. In the present economy fish is getting expensive and alot of locals are going the chicken route. Even traditional "street foods" like kebab and gyros are all poultry or red meat based and they come served with side of dairy usually yoghurt just plain or tzatziki sauce . Lets not even go into their consumption of fresh cheeses like halloumi for breakfast and spreads like labne So i reall dobt know what mediteranean diet your referring to in this video
When people say there is such a thing as Mediterranean diet….😂😂😂😂😂
Love it!
My perception of this diet is it’s based on fish. Gross to me. 😊
I need to understand this. I am diabetic and need to get my lifestyle together.
Dr Fuhrman claims that drizzling olive oil all over your food, is a difficult way to lose weight. I am so confused with all these diets out there.
I have had success with KETO, and South Beach. My body responds well when I reduce carbohydrates to 20 grams or 50 grams, daily.
Can I fast with gallstones ?
Fish is very expensive ,not sure I'm rich enough for this diet.
This was great. My wife is all about a Mediterranean Diet and I lean towards Keto – with common sense. I've been saying they are not that far apart when you emphasize healthy choices.
Dr. Becky, can you please suggest breakfast options with this type of diet, since eggs are on the list of foods to limit? Thank you.
Very helpful, thank you
Thank you for the great video and break down. I'm doing low carb to reverse prediabetes. I realized I'm doing a version of this so woohoo. Only on week one but getting there, plus I'm fasting.
Is there a reason Pacific Cod isn't on the list?
I’m following Mediterranean right now with pregnancy, but after I need to loose 10-15lbs. I was thinking about mixing the two, but wouldn’t my weight come right back on after I do med keto? I don’t want to do that forever. I like the freedom on the med diet (I really don’t over indulge and I’m not super overwheight. I’m just insulin resistant)
Madam, please send me your email address for a few queries?
I'm more of a Keto person but sometimes allow 25 gms of net carbs because of the high fiber keto wraps out there . I do use more fish omega 3 and unsaturated fats but keep yogurt, eggs, lean meats and hard cheeses on my list.
Great video!! I've worked out most of my life and have eaten what most people would consider mostly healthy. I did go through the "low fat" craze in the late 80's and 90's where I would, literally, eat less than 20 mg's of fat a day. 🫣 While I was very lean, I'm sure that I wasn't that healthy as my BP was pretty high even though I was eating "healthy" and my body fat was less than 8%. Anyway, I'm now 57 and I just got a cardiac calcium score of 236 and am planning on going strict on the keto with leanings toward carnivore. I've always appreciated the Mediterranean Diet. This video has me leaning towards the keto/Mediterranean. It SOUNDS better for cardiac health…..
Decisions, decisions….
We don't limit dairy in Mediterranean, but traditionally we do eat it only from goats and sheep, not cows. Goats and sheep not only have A2 casein, which is less problematic than cows' A1, but also, it contains MCT fats. Cows' dairy fat is not MCT. So there's no reason to limit these, as long as it's goat/sheep-based. Or camel-based, for that matter.
I live in Spain and I¡m about to do Keto, so thank you for this!!
Need the Save feature activated so I can refer back to this very useful guide, please.
