  1. Your body weight consists of –

    Muscle mass,

    fat mass

    Water

    Tendon, bones, organs etc.

Any gain is weight may result from an increase in fat mass (fat weight), muscle mass and water or a combination of three.

If you choose to stay sedentary and gain weight, unfortunately, most of this weight comes in the form of fat mass.

If you choose to gain weight and also improve your body composition, then the following approach will be ideal.

    Resistance training

Small calorie surplus (upto 500 kcal daily)

Optimal protein (1.2-2g/kg of body weight)

You can look at gaining between 0.5-1% of your body weight. This will result in an increase in some muscle & some fat. If you increase the rate of weight gain, beyond this even with resistance training & optimal protein, you will still gain a larger portion as fat.

Because there is a limit to which you can gain muscle per month.

    Hope it helps.

    Cheers

  4. if you are too skinny dont fear to put on some fat at the beginning on a temporary basis, later you can cut that. Losing weight is far easier than gaining weight. First try to bulk by whatever means. Same thing I did, I was 47 kilos 2 years back (5'9 height), now I'm 68 kilos. Up Till 60 kilos my body consisted of fats because I did moderate level workouts but ate a lot. After 60, I increased my workout intensity by eating healthy foods only when I'm hungry.
